Girl Power: Are you Really using your Superpowers to help other Women?

Girl Power is a slogan that we all hear often.

What exactly does the slogan girl power mean?

It encourages and celebrates women empowerment, independence and confidence.

It has become a global movement committed to empower, educate and encourage women to live life freely and with no reservation. It helps women, raise and improve one’s self esteem and confidence.

One thing that it  is not,  is tearing one another down. Or a list to make another woman feel low.

I’m going to say this, a lot of this girl power movement is fluff and talk. I have seen so much of it.

Some are all about empowering your clique or group of women whom you hold high and never wanting to give other women a chance.

“How can we talk empowerment and Girl Power if we are making women feel bad about themselves and tearing them down?”

877a67b9648e18b2ecf225931fda2b4a--empowered-women-empower-women-women-empowering-womenDon’t get me wrong there are some real women out here about their business and really helping women be all that they can be.

We as women could really make a significant change and impact if we bind together and let this world feel our mighty blow.

I know some may not agree with me, but this how I see it through my eyes. I am a woman who strives to empower other women because of what I have been through and so many times wish I had someone that was there to encourage and motivate me.

Once being homeless, struggling through life, and barely making it has proved to be a source of my inspiration because I never want to go back there.

I choose my words wisely when speaking with other women who are going through tough times, because of my life experiences, but I never sugar coat the truth.

What does empowerment mean?

It refers to measures designed to increase the degree of autonomy and self determination in people and in communities in order to enable them to represent their interest in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own authority. It helps women to overcome their sense of powerlessness and lack of influence, and to recognize and use their resources to help others.

Are you really empowering others?

What does empowering mean to you?

Sit and meditate and ask yourself these two questions.

We have to truly lift each other up as women and motivate, inspire and love with no reservations.

Yes, we are all trying to survive and make a living, but does everything have to come with a price tag attached?

A simple hello or keep your head my sister, can truly make a difference in a person’s life.

When I was homeless, a uplifting word was all I needed sometimes.

So Girl Bosses and women that empower, lets really take a look at how we are empowering and know that we are doing all that we can to help another, the right way.

  1. Melesha great post but for African American women we have so many layers of healing to pull through to get to the point of loving self and others to effectively empower. Often times we are fearful of the others sisters success either subconsciously or consciously.
