Pencil skirts are one of my favorite pieces to wear to the office because they’re ultra-flattering on most women if worn correctly. I also love them because they’re versatile. A pencil skirt can be dressed up and worn on a night out with the girls. But it can also be dressed down with a cute tee and kicks. Either way, because of the pencil skirt’s silhouette, there’s always a feminine element to it.
Now, of course, the black, navy blue, and gray pencil skirts are a closet basic for most business women. But today we will discuss the not so basic pencil skirts. These are the vibrant florals, the flirty leather, the must-wear prints, etc. pencil skirts that take the classic piece to the next level; From basic to dramatic! So keep scrolling because your work week is about to get a whole lot prettier thanks to these suggestions I have for you below.
Colorblock with a pencil skirt
Color blocking is a chic way of wearing contrasting blocks of solid, typically bright color. It’s a pretty easy style concept to master because it only requires two or three solid colors. As you can see above, I mixed my navy blue pencil skirt with this peach colored top and heels. Then, to make a bold statement, I added my cluster statement necklace. It was the perfect accent to these two colors.
Style Tip: If you prefer to color block, make sure the darker shade is applied on the areas of your body you’re looking to conceal.
Try a Pencil Skirt with a Feminine Blouse
The best way to add boldness and style to an otherwise drab office look is to add color and prints.; this is what I did with these two looks above. The first look features a beautiful black floral top with a brightly colored yellow pencil skirt, and the next look features an ivory colored top with a red pencil skirt. Both of these tops are especially feminine and flirty; Yet, they are still very office appropriate.
Style Tip: To balance out a brightly colored skirt, create a little subtlety by adding a neutral colored top.
Try a Leather Pencil Skirt
The leather pencil skirt is a sexy, yet sophisticated piece. Because it’s leather, there is an edgy element to it. So to ensure a balance of edgy, yet refined, I would suggest pairing it with a classic or conservative top. Lastly, add a bold statement piece to finish off the look.
Style Tip: High waisted skirts look best with tops that are tucked in. This combination creates the appearance of a cinched waistline and a polished finish.
As you can see, pencil skirts are perfect for versatility. Every woman should have at least one in their closet. I challenge you to find that pencil skirt in your closet that you have put off wearing and throw it on. But try wearing it differently than you have before. Let us know how it goes!
