In less than a week, Labor Day will be upon us. Labor Day means the unofficial start of fall has begun. That means good bye long summer days and hello short cool nights. Some are looking forward to fall weather and some are not (I’m not). But I can say with a little certainty that we’re all looking forward to transitioning our wardrobe with cool fall pieces. The tricky thing about fall is that it’s not always cold and it’s not always hot; especially here in Atlanta. So we have to figure out how to make the transition from summer to fall in a comfortable, yet fashionable manner. How do we do this though? The answer is, LAYERS. Fall fashion is all about layering. Layering gets you through those awkward months between full-fledged summer and cool fall. Below are seven pieces that are perfect for layering. These pieces will help transition your summer clothes into the fall season.
Denim Trucker Jacker

If there’s one piece that works any time of year, it’s the denim jacket. I personally keep one around during the summer for those moments that I’m stuck in the office all day. It’s a reliable and versatile staple. In the fall, it acts as an extra layer; a must have for those chilly fall nights.
Floppy Felt Hat

Hats are a practical, yet stylish addition to your wardrobe. They keep your head warm during the cool months, but the one above also serves as a chic accessory to your fall looks!
Printed Scarf

A soft and light scarf with a beautiful print is the perfect accessory to pair with a simple t-shirt and jeans for a casual weekend or a solid dress and cardigan for work. It’s super versatile and it can be dressed up or down.
Suede Peep-Toe Ankle Boots

Open-toe booties are tailor-made for that finicky time between summer and fall. It’s part sandal and part boot which makes it a fit for all seasons; especially late summer and fall. A taupe colored open toe bootie is super stylish & comfy too. Try these with your favorite pair of summer shorts and a long cardigan.
Suede Moto Jacket

Burgundy/Wine is a standard color for fall which makes it the obvious color for a suede moto jacket. Wear it with a pair of skinny jeans and open toe booties. Or layer it on top of your favorite summer maxi dress.
Cardigan

The cardigan is a fall staple piece that is great for those breezy early summer days and chilly fall nights. Your cardigan for fall should be lightweight and breathable. Try a camel colored one or one of my favorite fall colors, olive.
Dark Floral Dress

Your dress that you’ve been wearing all summer can be transitioned into fall. Just add a cute jacket, a cropped sweater, or a denim jacket. It’s a lovely casual look!
Cardigan – Old Navy Dress – Old Navy Jeans – H&M Heels – Aldo Bag – Nordstrom
As you can see above, I styled one of my summer dresses two different ways. The first one is a look from earlier this summer. Next, I styled it for fall. I’m wearing my dress as a top with black denim jeans and my favorite mules (you substitute the mules for a pair of open-toe booties as well). I then added this black cardigan from Old Navy, my black tote, and a few other accessories. So as you can see, wearing some of your summer pieces in the fall isn’t that hard. And you don’t have to do much shopping to prepare for fall. Just shop your closet!
